Seat cushion heating

Structure:

Electrical resistances or electrical foil are put into the cushions on the church benches. When switched on, the cushion will warm up and give to the visitor a certain sensation of warmth. There is a possibility of fitting sensors, whereby the cushion heating is only activated when somebody is sitting on it.

 

Advantages of the system:

  • The heat conduction will be perceived as warmth in the places where you have contact with the cushion.
  • As the radiation of heat is only minimal, the requirements on the electrical connections are not very high either.
  • Quick reaction
  • Easy to mount and rather inexpensive

 


Disadvantages of the system:

  • Radiation with this system is even lower than with a heating under the seats. You cannot therefore reach any noticeable increase in the inside temperature.
  • There is virtually no warming of walls, windows and ceiling. Thus you have no effective protection against condensate.
  • In some publications 40 watts per seat are stated as the heat produced. Then the perception of the visitor is compared with that of sitting in a car fitted with seat heating. This comparison, however, is flawed in several respects:

An average car seat heating has heating power of ca 160 to 180 watts, which is four times the power of the cushion. Moreover a car seat heating doesn´t only heat buttocks and a part of the thighs, as is the case with a heated cushion, but also large parts of your back, which makes a big difference to your well-being.

And even the best car seat heating doesn´t do much good if you don´t have a heating that warms up the air around you at the same time. You will easily feel the difference by driving in a cold car with only the seat heating switched on.
